How I turned a book of drawings into a web drawing guide challenge
EZDraw is place in the web where you can find guides of how to draw anything from simple to complex shapes, movements, animals, faces and more, while providing a 30 day challenge. The main goal of this project is to help maintain the momentum of drawing with a daily challenge and having a solution guide to help complete the prompts.
Role: UX designer
Client: Personal project
This project was the final assignment for the SuperHi Visual Design + Branding course.
The project was to create a digital version of a printed publication. The idea was to take something that worked on paper and make it work on screen.
I had one week to complete the project.
I found a vintage drawing guide book with great illustrations. It shows how drawing can be simple after learning the basic steps.
I think this book would be a great resource for anyone who wants to start drawing better.
Research and define
I talked to some friends and family about drawing. They said they didn't draw because they didn't know how. They knew they could find videos on YouTube, but they were worried they'd get distracted.
Here are the main takeaways from our discussion:
Some users don't know the basics of drawing. Also, there are few books or websites that teach this.
Users want a simple, easy-to-follow guide.
Users want a way to challenge themselves every day. This lets them focus on improving their skills and creativity without worrying about what to draw next.
Ideate
I realised I needed to do more than just create a website to keep users engaged. I came up with a 30-day challenge inspired by DailyUI.
This challenge sends a daily prompt for 30 days to help users draw. If users find the prompt hard, the email will include a link to a drawing guide.
Prototyping
The main thing users should do is sign up for the 30-day challenge.
Next, users will find tools and drawing guides.
No login or subscription is needed to access the website.
On the drawing guide page, users can browse categories and view guides. Each guide has a step-by-step illustration and a description.
Challenges & Future Version
The main challenge was to use the information in a creative way to make it digital.
I would like to make a few changes to EZDraw in the future, such as:
Add videos to the guides to show the whole process.
Create an Illustrator account to add drawing guide videos.
Make the list of drawing guides more comprehensive. A filter option would also help users search more easily. This would help them find what they need faster.
Teach users to draw digitally (on-screen) with step-by-step guides.
